Tableau dashboard that visualizes the return on investment (ROI) of U.S. 2-year and 4-year college programs, using data from the Department of Education’s College Scorecard.
Inspiration
Inspired by a 2023 New York Times survey highlighting affordability and post-graduation earnings as top student priorities.
Process
Developed Python script to clean and process large Department of Education College Scorecard dataset.
Plotted total program cost and cumulative earnings 10 years after enrollment, adjusted to net present value using the discounted cash flow method (mirroring Georgetown’s College ROI study).
Learnings
Programs in the upper-right quadrant indicate higher ROI — lower costs combined with stronger earnings potential. Public universities and community colleges, on average, provide the best returns on investment.
